Vail, Colorado spine surgeon, Dr. Donald Corenman, routinely sits down with TV8 Vail to discuss common spine disorders and specific spine conditions that create back pain in individuals.
During this interview, he discusses Degenerative Spondylolisthesis, one of the more common spine disorders, which is a condition that occurs over time. Essentially, when a person has Degenerative Spondylolisthesis the disc between two vertebrae within the spine wears out due to aging and normal wear and tear. When this occurs, the vertebra on top slides forward on the vertebra below resulting in a narrowing of the spinal canal. This condition creates pressure on the nerves which is a major factor of back pain. Understanding back pain prevention exercises and techniques helps as this condition can get worse in individuals.
While the natural aging process and living an active life can be a cause of Degenerative Spondylolisthesis, poor posture also plays a role. Dr. Corenman discusses the importance of good posture and continues by saying that strengthening the core and back by rotating your pelvis and tightening your abdominal muscles helps to straighten the back which helps individuals with back pain prevention.
For more information on common spine disorders, or for options surrounding the treatment of Degenerative Spondylolisthesis, please visit Dr. Corenman's website.
